Entropy 1.05: more particles and faster previewing
Entropy 1.05 is a free update to Entropy 1.0 for Adobe After Effects. It raises the particle limits and makes previewing more responsive, with a larger simulation cache and faster interruption of heavy frames.
Wild Construct, Inc. has released Entropy 1.05, a free update to Entropy 1.0 for Adobe After Effects. It raises the particle limits and makes previewing more responsive, with a larger simulation cache and faster interruption of heavy frames. Your license, presets and sprites carry over.
More particles
- The Particles/sec slider now runs to 10,000 and accepts typed values up to 500,000, up from 1,000 and 50,000.
- Child systems set to From Parent's Particles can hold four times as many particles: 524,288 alive instead of 131,072. A trail behind a busy parent system is no longer thinned to a dotted line, and the Particles/sec hint says when a value is still being capped.
- The simulation now costs what is alive, not what is allocated. Editing a scene with a large child system, which used to stall for seconds per nudge, is responsive again in both the Composer and After Effects.
Faster previewing and caching
- Scrubbing or editing while a heavy frame is rendering now interrupts that frame at once. Before, After Effects waited for the whole simulation to finish.
- The simulation cache keeps up to 64 restore points instead of 8, sized to the machine's memory (a quarter of RAM, between 1 and 8 GB). Jumping around a long composition no longer rebuilds from the first frame, and previewing with Multi-Frame Rendering no longer throws away the cache the other render threads use. The first visit to a time nobody has simulated yet still runs every tick up to it.
- Fixed a crash with several Entropy systems in one comp under Multi-Frame Rendering when a system was deleted, undone or duplicated while a preview was rendering.
Composer
- The destination and draft strip at the top of the Composer is gone, and OK no longer runs a check against After Effects before applying. Apply always writes to the layer the Composer was opened from.
- The Composer no longer restores an old session on launch. Reset starts from defaults, and Restore previous scene is offered only after a preset load.
- If an apply fails, the error shows once and OK becomes Close.
- Presets apply correctly on a localized After Effects (Japanese, German and others) on both platforms.
Windows
Localized control names and popup values in Effect Controls no longer show as garbled characters on a Japanese After Effects. This applies to every language Entropy ships.
Available now
Entropy 1.05 is included with every Entropy license. Existing customers can download it from their account page at wildconstruct.com/account.
Entropy is a particle instrument that simulates and renders on the graphics card. It is $299 for a perpetual license, activates two machines, and comes with a free seven-day trial at wildconstruct.com/trial/entropy.
